Songs for the Family – Part 1

One weekend last July was one of those rare times when all six of our children and their families were with us at home. As I thought about us all being together in the months leading up to it, I decided to do a private, backyard concert of original songs. So I wrote two songs to Sharlene, one to the kids, one to little Titus, and one to the Lord. I set up on the deck and put out outdoor chairs, enough for everyone.

I used to consider music and musical talents to be for public use. But I’ve grown to value them for private purposes. In the social media era, it’s so easy to share everything publicly, but there’s something satisfying about keeping some things private. That’s what I did with these songs, until now. I’ve decided to post one song each week for the next six weeks. I hope you enjoy a peek into our little backyard concert, and that these songs will somehow be a blessing to you. 

My Favorite

This is a song I wrote to our kids. I’ve always told each one that they’re my favorite, and it’s true. Every one of my kids is my favorite. I think that’s how the favor of God works. Favor doesn’t have to be comparative. It can apply to everyone.

  7. Gabe, you remind me of my Dad (a compliment that has only fallen from my lips a couple of times before) a man who loved his family fiercely, but not ahead of God. Ironically, he wrote songs for us (his wife and children) and sang them to us regularly. You are mapping out THE GREATEST legacy for your family! I adore this ❤️
